Ableton 11 is the newest instalment of the massively popular Digital Audio Workstation and provides you with advanced music production and sound editing application with a tonne of brand new features that are purely designed to assist you with your compositions and audio editing. Such features include a brand new user interface, the addition of a wavetable synthesizer and a broad range of workflow improvements alongside perfect integration with Max for Live.

To help you stay in the groove, Ableton 11 now features a multitude of workflow improvements that are designed to keep you focused on what’s most important, creating music that sounds professional. Whether you’re merely getting down some ideas, organising your setup or getting down and dirty with some creative audio processing Live 11 comes with a plethora of improved functions, new shortcuts, and production-based features to keep you in the creative process.

When using the Push 2 alongside Ableton Live 11 you can simultaneously sequence notes and play them from the same pad layout; this means you can play notes in real-time using the bottom 32 pads as well as use the top 32 pads to sequence in chord progressions and melodies. Also using the MIDI note view you can alter notes and pitches directly from the Push’s display, simply press and hold a step on the sequencer and use the onboard controls to adjust parameters such as velocity, note position and note length. Thanks to the Push 2’s high-resolution screens you get a crystal clear view of both the Echo effect and the Wavetable synthesizer while you’re using them, this means you do not need to constantly stare at your computer screen when you’re sound designing. This visualization also works for the EQ Eight effect and the Compressor; you’ll see a frequency spectrum analysis across the screen in real-time alongside mid/side and left/right EQ modes, as well as visuals for threshold settings and when the signal ducks.

Now Max for Live is fully integrated into Ableton 11 and provides you with a broad variety of new devices and functions which have been designed to give you more creative options than ever before. Max for Live has undergone many significant improvements including faster load times, less CPU usage and an updated user interface; this makes Max for Live even more reliable and intuitive. Many of Max for Live’s native devices have been significantly updated; drum synthesizers have been re-worked to offer an upgraded sound and a much more comprehensive sweet spot. Plus new LFO tools and modulation sources mean you can now modulate up to eight parameters from within a single device. Thanks to enhanced MIDI-hardware integration, Max for Live can now send and receive SysEx signals, giving you a more in-depth combination with hardware synthesizers which includes preset backup dumps and parameter control. You can also create custom control surfaces for any custom hardware you may have, while new routing abilities makes mixing for performances and multi-channel speaker setups more accessible than ever thanks to the Surround Panner effect.

Ableton Live 11 is here and now comes with a whole host of features to get those creative ideas flowing. Ableton Live 11 music production software is great for getting those ideas from your head to the DAW in an inspirational way.

Comping Perfect Takes

Ableton Live arranges multiple passes of an audio or MIDI performance into different takes. Choose the best moments of each captured performance and merge them to create your ideal take. Or innovatively approach sound design by splicing together a selection of random audio samples from your library.

Linked-track editing

You can combine two or more tracks to edit their content simultaneously; this makes editing multi-tracked instruments and performances with several musicians an effortless and quick process, whilst keeping everything in sync across those selected tracks. This feature works for MIDI tracks as well.

More Music Feeling

Use your MPE-capable controller

Connect your MPE-capable controller and instantly add bends, slides and pressure for any note in a chord. Also, add detailed expression variations, morph between chords and shape evolving sonic textures.

What is MPE?

MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE) is another way of using MIDI. It allows MPE-capable devices to control different parameters of your notes in real-time, allowing for more expressive instrumental performances.

Note Expression View

Alter the pitch, slide, and pressure envelopes of any note to sharpen the expression of your takes. Or get creative by taking your sound design further by sequencing polyphonic sound variations.

More expressive sounds included

Sampler, Wavetable and Arpeggiator are all updated to support MPE. Furthermore, Ableton Live 11 comes with some excellent MPE presets for each device that bring new dimensions of interaction and playability to your music productions. The new expressive possibilities also enable polyphonic aftertouch on Push.

Experiment with new devices

Ableton Live 11 includes new and updated devices.

Hybrid Reverb

Hybrid Reverb is a device that blends convolution and algorithmic reverbs. Hybrid Reverb allows you to place your sounds in any space, from natural, real-life settings to those that defy physical reality. Use the algorithmic side to add control, modulate the reverb tail for originality, run it in parallel or series with the convolution side, or get creative by playing Hybrid Reverb like an instrument for instantaneous sound design.

Spectral Resonator

Spectral Resonator is an excellent device that breaks the spectrum of your incoming audio signal into partials, then stretches, blurs and shifts your sound by a frequency or a note in subtle or extreme ways. The MIDI sidechain input also enables artists to process material in key and let you play the device as a polyphonic instrument.

Spectral Time

Spectral Time modifies your sound into partials and feeds them into a frequency-based delay, resulting in frequency-shifted, metallic echoes and reverb echoing effects. Furthermore, the Freeze function captures and holds a slice of the audio – either free-running or in sync with the beat – for great-sounding glitched, stuttered and washed-out effects.

PitchLoop89

Ableton Live's new PitchLoop89 Max for Live pitch-shifting device allows you to create jittery glitch type effects, delayed digital shimmers, and distinctive vibratos. Pitchloop89 was developed in collaboration with Robert Henke and inspired by the Publison DHM 89 – a distinguished digital effects processor. This diverse tool adds character to your sounds in the studio or adds originality when dialled in onstage.

Inspired by Nature

Inspired by Nature consists of six playful instruments and effects created in collaboration with MaxforLive developer Dillon Bastan, who uses natural and physical processes as the main inspiration.

Vector FM – Manipulate various combinations of FM oscillators represented by moving particles – play with movement and voices to generate evolving modulations and textures.

Vector Grain – A granular looper device that envisions sound modulation by moving particles on the interface – play with attraction and magnetism or loop the particles within the flow field.

Vector Delay – Each envisioned particle in this multitap delay effect represents a distinct delay line – you can create pitch shifting or reverse delay effects with movement controlled by physical forces.

Emit – This visual granular synthesizer uses particles shooting across a spectrogram to determine the grain of a sample being played, while vertical movements signify filtering and panning.

Tree Tone – Grow various fractal patterns inspired by plants, then use patterns as resonators for internally generated noise or incoming audio.

Bouncy Notes – Bounce balls up and down a piano roll to produce pitch-shifting delay effects or arpeggiation to help create rhythmic interest with this great gravity-based MIDI sequencer.

All set for more on Stage

Tempo Following

Live monitors and adjusts its tempo rate based on incoming audio in real-time, making it a dynamic role within the band instead of the tempo source that everyone has to follow. For DJ's and Artists, you can even turn Live into a convenient tempo-synced FX box.

Macro Snapshots

File the state of your Macros for later recall – ideal for creating ready-to-use variations to your sounds or builds and drops during live performance.

Rack improvements

Configure your Ableton Racks to have between 1 and 16 Macros. Randomize the status of your Macros with the randomization switch. Map this control to MIDI and implement radical changes in real-time to amaze your audience and yourself.

Note chance

Set the probability that a note or drum hit will happen and let Live create surprising alterations to your patterns that evolve over time.

Velocity chance

Set ranges for velocity probability for subtle, humanized variations in the dynamics of your patterns.

Do more with Follow Actions

Follow Actions can now be linked to the length of your clip to speed up your workflow, making it faster to generate powerful clips sequences. Scene Follow Actions allow you to create evolving arrangements. You can also set Follow Actions to jump to particular clips and enable and disable Follow Actions globally.

Work with new sounds

New instruments

Formulated in collaboration with Spitfire Audio, these three inspiring Instrument Packs bring the dynamic chamber ensemble textures to any music production.
